We're Tasting
Delicate, elegant, juicy and incredibly sweet. Fresh blackberry, sweet apricot, articulate florals which bring jasmine and coffee blossom to mind. Balanced acidity and a crisp mouthfeel.
About
This is an Ethiopian landrace variety that was thought to be yellow bourbon until just last year. The aruzi variety came straight from Ethiopia about 20 years ago, although details are sparse. Aruzi, or aruzi bourbon found its home in Southern Colombia, particularly Cauca.
The cup profile definitely supports this new revelation, being so abundantly floral and tea-like.
This offering is grown in naturally shaded conditions and produced organically, with no certification. Cherry maturation is slowed, allowing for an abundance of sugars to develop before an extended drying period, which increases complexity in the cup. The Liz-Andela family take great care of their land, and the favour is returned in fantastic coffees like this one.
Price paid by LULO to the Liz-Andela family: $15usd/kg.
