We're Tasting
A classic, consistent, and oh-so comforting coffee, the Nasa Community blend is our Pillar of Pillars for a reason.
It's jam packed with notes of rich and creamy chocolates, so much syrupy molasses sweetness and a hint of spices like cinnamon and cardamom. Body-forward with subtle red fruit acidities, It's delicious no matter how you brew, and particularly apt for espresso.
About
This is a community blend in the truest sense. Made up of coffees from Nasa Indigenous small holder farmers of the Resguardo de Togoima. The average farm size is 1 hectare and the agricultural practices are traditionally organic and regenerative, with numerous native flora species providing shade to the coffee trees and a habitat for many fauna species, including possums and many birds.
This harvest, the largest contributors are:
Wilmer Sanchez
Sonia Sanchez
Hugo Nez
Fernando Velasco
Manuel Cuchillo
Finca Nasa Uy Café
Familia Sánchez La Milagrosa
Together, these families make up roughly 70% of the blend. The remaining 30% comes from families in the area trading extremely small quantities (~12kg parchment) at a time for food or supplies from the Liz-Andela family store.
Everyone involved, small or large, has years of history with the Liz-Andela family. These years have built an immense amount of trust and that is exactly how the coffee is traded.
The varieties found in the blend are: caturra, cenicafe 1, castillo, tabi, F6, San Bernardo, red and pink bourbon, and a small amount of maragogype. The semiwashed process is the traditional way of treating their crop. The fruit is pulped with almost no water and washed before drying with some 30% mucilage.
Price paid by LULO to the Liz-Andela family: $12usd/kg.
